provisional liquidator
A person appointed by a court after the presentation of a winding-up petition on a company (see compulsory liquidation). The provisional liquidator, whose powers are limited, has to protect the interests of all the parties involved until the winding-up order is made. The official receiver is normally appointed to this post. See also liquidator
